Sometimes this world can suck. Seems like the majority of the world is only looking out for themselves, and you can really see it in times that the world is experiencing difficulties. Instead of people coming together, selfishness gets in the way and further drives us apart. Where’s the freaking love? No wonder so many people are depressed and they feel like they have no one to talk to.
They feel like no one cares because everyone is so consumed with themselves, and there’s nothing wrong with self care, but don’t be selfish and forget about your brother, sister, neighbor, or even that stranger. What happened to being our brother’s keeper? Don’t get me wrong, I totally believe that you have to care for yourself first, before you can care for someone else, but I don’t believe that we should be consumed with ourselves, and only focused on our feelings or desires. When we only care about ourselves, it’s not only selfish, but it’s a spirit of greed. Me, me, me, is all a selfish person thinks about.
They may want to protect themselves, but they hurt other people in order to protect themselves in the process. We all need to consider each other’s feelings more and practice compassion. We’re not always operating in the spirit of love, we’re operating in the spirit of fear, which causes us to be selfish and full of greed. I too have been guilty of this in the past, but I set internal growth goals every year, and I told myself that I will only put out the energy that I want returned to me, regardless of how people respond to me. We all go around with these smiles and telling people we’re good or fine, but many of us are one trigger away from going off or breaking down because we are not okay… but who can we trust enough to talk to?.. God.
When is the last time you talked to Him? Many times we’re frustrated, depressed, or anxious, because we can’t get out of our own heads long enough to hear His voice. We’re too focused on trying to control the things around us, when we should be looking up! Everything we need to live a peaceful life, regardless of the world being in chaos, is found in Christ. Only God alone can quench that thirst we have, by filling that void in our lives with His Spirit.
Sure, we still want companionship, love, and we want to feel like we matter to other people, but we must secure ourselves in Christ first, or whatever we lack with other people can cause us to go insane, literally. So, let’s focus on strengthening our relationship with our Heavenly Father, so that we can walk in love, and be each other’s keeper. Even if the entire world doesn’t change, we can change the world around us. We can give the love, care, listening ear, hug, helping hand, smile, sound advice, understanding, opportunity, respect, and friendship, that we want in return. God will see it and reward it, because we’re operating in His Truth, and not our own gain.
