How to let go and let God: Breaking free of emotional bondage and becoming your best self through Christ. (Part 2)

Baggage claim

In part 1, I talked about how in order to let go and let God, one must be tired of holding on to their burdens if they truly want to give them to God. So go back and read that if you haven’t.
So, what’s next? You’re going to God because you’re tired of this weight. What’s the next move? Glad you asked. 😀 The next move would be to give. First move go, second move give. Sounds simple right? It isn’t. If giving God our issues were that easy, we wouldn’t be carrying so much baggage. 695E8B4E-0EB9-4B46-9DF7-D060B1F68023
When traveling, the first thing you do is check into the airport and immediately after you check in, what happens? The attendant checks your luggage. Why? To see how much it’s going to cost you, and depending on the weight, traveling can be frustrating and pricey or it can be a breeze. It all depends on what you’ve packed. The same rule applies in life. Your baggage can either make you or break you. Help you or hinder you. Help you arrive at your destiny on time or delay your blessings. It’s up to you.
The truth of the matter is, oftentimes we look at this baggage as “our stuff”, and we don’t want God to touch it because it’s fragile. As a matter of fact, we’re standing at the conveyor belt making sure that He or no one else grabs our baggage. 3C7C2B23-0426-4B0F-996B-5EBACCC729AB
We even try to take it onboard with us, and make it fit in the storage area above us, or under our seats, but as in life, there’s simply, not enough room. There’s places God wants to take you, but not everything you’re holding on to can go with you. Some of us keep this “stuff” for comfort, attention, protection, reminders, validation, and more. Holding on to the baggage feels like holding on to a stuffed animal or emotional support dog, on the surface. Beneath the surface (at least for those who desire change) there’s a war raging and the individual is in dire need of peace. They’re seeking all the things I mentioned above, from people, things, or themselves, but the only thing that the person really needs, is the peace of God. Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” If you feel like this person is you, and you’re at the alter of God, give Him “your stuff”, but just know once you release it, it’s no longer yours, it’s His. If you’re not ready to let what they did go, don’t even bother attempting to give it to God, because you’re just going to waste your time, taking it back and then blaming God for not doing anything with it, when He can’t because you haven’t fully released it, and allowed Him to take control. If you need more specific ways to give that thing up, look at what James 5:6 says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Confess that weight you’ve been carrying around. Doing so shows those demons that you acknowledge them and you’re getting rid of them. It shows God that you’re serious about accepting His help. You will need the support of fellow believers, too. Which is why, the Word tells us to confess these things and pray for each other. Jesus said, in Matthew 18:19, “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” He also said, in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Don’t isolate yourself. Love is powerful. We are stronger together. A lion doesn’t prey on a herd of elephants, he preys on the weakest one, or one that has strayed away, and is alone. So, a support team is necessary. God works through people and has put people in different areas of ministry for a reason. Your support team should consist of people you can trust. Individuals who will build you up in Christ, be honest with you and hold you accountable on this new path to emotional freedom. Confession is a significant part of letting go and letting God, because you’re no longer holding on to the weight of your secrets. You’re acknowledging and releasing them with your words, and we all know, our words have power. Find you a mentor, biblical counselor (Me 🙋🏾‍♀️), or go to your Pastor or someone else trustworthy in the body of Christ, who is knowledgeable in the Word of God, and who’ll give you the spiritual and emotional support that you need along the way. As I’ve said before, giving your baggage up, will not be easy, especially when you’ve developed an emotional attachment or a spiritual attachment to it; but if you just go to God and be real with Him, He can heal you. There’s no specific prayer you need to pray, you just need to be specific in your prayers. Let Him know that you’re tired and that you’re releasing that thing (abuse, toxic relationship, negative mindset, failures or disappointments etc.) to Him, for good; then, go about your business knowing God is in control. Remember, the only way to make room, is to let go. Don’t be a hoarder, constantly losing yourself in the toxicity of your past, disappointments or current situation. Let go and let God. ❤️
Part 3, coming soon. Be blessed.
