As a child, we played outside. Rarely got bored, and if we did, we were creative. We made up games, and found a way to stay active. Kids nowadays, have all kinds of cool gadgets and technology to keep them occupied, but they still get bored. I’m like, you have twelve things going on! How are you bored? Go outside! When I say go outside, it’s as if I’m speaking a foreign language. The sad news is, many adults are sitting around bored every single day, just like they’re a kid. They have a lot of nothing going on… just like a kid. When a person gets bored, it’s really their soul saying, “I need to be filled.” If you want to combat boredom, you must think outside the box of your comfort zone. I think people, both adults and kids would rather combat boredom by being entertained, rather than putting in work, but it shouldn’t always be this way. There’s nothing wrong with being entertained, but it is something wrong with not being fruitful. Boredom should be thought of as an alarm telling you to get to work. Not on your job, but on your purpose. If you don’t know your purpose yet, work on your hobbies and things you’re passionate about, and your purpose will find you. We can’t make the most of the present opportunity God has given us by doing things for entertainment purposes only. We need a healthy balance. Don’t do anything just to waste time. Time is precious. Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back, so do everything with a purpose, even if the purpose at that moment is to rest, because resting is also important. Rest, but don’t get lazy. Do what you love but keep others in mind and share your gift. That’s where purpose comes in. Don’t do it for you and you alone, because you’ll still feel bored and incomplete. God put us here to help each other by using the gifts He has entrusted us with. Find ways to combat boredom in ways that are beneficial to you, your family and your community. Most importantly, combat boredom in ways that glorify God, because we’ve all heard the saying, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” So, whatever you do, keep God first. If the things you’d normally resort to when you are bored, aren’t beneficial… stop doing it. You can do without it, even if it’s entertaining. You don’t want temporary pleasure, you want fruit that will last. Ask God how can you use your gifts to serve Him better? He will show you. Old habits die hard though, so you must be willing to give up your old ways. The key is, not to become idle. Work diligently, everyday, and I’m not talking about your nine to five, I’m talking about working your purpose! After all, that’s why we’re really here. ❤️
