Don’t dwell on your wants because wants never go away. When you get what you want, it doesn’t seem as important as it did when you didn’t have it, so you began to look for the next best thing trying to satisfy that desire for more. We’re always going to want, but don’t tie your happiness to how much of your wants you receive. That’s how the enemy steals your joy, by keeping you in your feelings about the things you desire. You don’t need to have it all in order to be happy. Happiness is a choice. That want will not fill that void in your life, like the Spirit of God can. The truth is, you can live without it, you just want it, because you think it can compensate for what’s missing in your life. Even if you had what you considered “having it all” that want for more will never fade, so learn to be grateful for what you do have. Make the most out of the present opportunities, and count your blessings. Your wants may hurt, but it hasn’t killed you and it won’t. God has promised to supply your every need, so if you don’t have it, you don’t need it or you don’t need it right now. The main thing is to want more of God more than you want for anything. More of His Spirit, more of His love. More of His strength. More of His peace. More of His grace. The more of God we have, the less we allow anxiety, depression, doubt and fear in.
Prayer: Fill me up with your Spirit God. Help me to stop overlooking my blessings because I’m too busy focusing on how others are blessed differently than me. You never promised to supply all my wants, but you did promise to supply all my needs. I realize that you give each of us grace for what we can handle. Maybe I haven’t received what I want because I’m not equipped to handle it right now, if so, teach me so that I’m in position to receive. Show me what I need to do to put my faith into action to receive my heart’s desire. If my heart isn’t in the right place, put the right desires there. If it’s not your will that I receive that particular want, then please God, show me how to overcome my wants and my will so that I can fulfill your will for my life. If this is a test of my faith, then give me the strength to stand and increase my faith so that no matter what I will hold on to that dream until I’ve received what I’m believing you for. I don’t want my desires to be selfish, I want them to be pleasing in your sight. Have your way God. Restore the joy of my salvation and give me your peace. In Jesus name. Amen.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
